Welcome

Why does hair loss happen?

  • Hair loss is seasonal: We lose twice as much hair in the spring & fall than throughout the rest of the year.
  • Hair loss can be inherited: People who suffer from hair loss usually have a family history of hair loss from either their father’s or mother’s side.
  • Hair loss can be stress related: Hair loss is not uncommon in people who experience prolong periods of stress, especially if a pre-existing condition like Alopecia exists.
  • Your diet can affect hair loss:  Having a balanced diet will help you have healthy hair.  Animal fats, particular red meats cause an increase in production of DHT –a chemical that has been linked to hair loss.

What are the different types of hair?

  • Healthy Anagen hair, depending of the age of a person, grows on 60% to 80% of the head.
  • Hair which falls out but comes back is Telogen hair which makes up about 15% -18% of a head of hair.
  • Catagen hair, which is the hair that falls out and does not come back, makes up 5% -10% of a head of hair.

Oily Scalp:

  • Wash with cooler water rather than hot water.
  • Be careful not to rub your scalp too hard.  It’s like squeezing a tube so that the glands produce more oil.
  • Use an acid balanced shampoo.  You may not get as many suds, but as it is acid balanced it is milder.
  • Aroma-therapeutic citronella oil: add about 10 drops to your shampoo bottle (size 250ml).

Dry Scalp:

  • Use a conditioning shampoo or a coal tar shampoo.
  • Give your scalp a protein treatment:  Mix one egg yolk and 20 ml (½ ounce) of olive oil. Apply to scalp and leave it on for 1 hour.

Sweaty scalp:

  • Aroma therapeutic menthol oil: put 5-8 drops in to your shampoo bottle. It has a cooling effect and helps to reduce sweating.

Doing your hair good with your diet

  1. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  2. Alcohol should be consumed in moderation as heavy intake would reduce the vitamins and minerals needed to grow hair like B, C, ZINC and FOLIC ACID.
  3. Herbal remedies: SAW PALMETTO is an extract of the berries of a saw palmetto shrub. It has been shown to reduce hair loss.
  4. Vitamin D3 has also shown to reduce hair loss. (1600 mg per day)
